Four months ago, I knew it was time for me to catch up on the market for children’s books. The second book in the Eldohr Adventures series was nearing completion so it was time to go back and review the competition for Eldohr. I’ll be honest. I wasn’t thrilled about the thought of going back and reading children’s books, as it made me put 11/22/63 on hold until I did my research on the competition.

Needless to say, I decided the Percy Jackson series would be a good fit for competition analysis, and the age group to Eldohr was very similar. I picked up The Lightning Thief with very little expectations, but I was immediately enthralled in the series. Riordan’s style is so simple to read, yet the characters and their relationships are done to perfection, and the action is nonstop. I was more than impressed with the first book in the series and found myself instantly wanting to read more. I finished the book in two days and purchased the second book soon after.

Again, I have read many series that disappoint after a great first book and I was still half-expecting to be disappointed. Like old relationship wounds, I had been disappointed so much in the past that I still didn’t give the series much of a chance on keeping me around. I hadn’t committed myself to this relationship yet. Well, the second book is even better. The characters are even more developed, the action still intense and the great writing continues.

Then it happened. I became so busy with marketing plans, advertising campaigns and micromanaging our upcoming projects that I had to step away from reading for fun for a couple of months. I was only reading manuscripts. These are times I usually deviate away from a series. I had ended the relationship due to my work schedule and how could I go back? That’s life. Well I went back, made my apologies and started book 3 of the series last week and I just finished book 4, The Battle of the Labyrinth, yesterday. Being sick for four days straight has helped that process out, but this series fails to disappoint.

 I can’t wait to read the finale of the series, The Last Olympian, and I recommend that everyone take the opportunity to read this series. These are the types of books that made me fall in love with reading as a child. If you want to fall in love with reading all over again, simply pick up this series and begin reading. You can be skeptical just like I was, but eventually you will fall in love with this series. It is the best series I have read in a long time. Happy Reading!
